Dakota 911 is headed by the Board of Directors, a 12-member board consisting of an elected official from each jurisdiction. Each Member of Dakota 911 will have one seat on the Board of Directors and is entitled to one vote. The Chair is Rosemount Mayor, Jeff Weisensel and the Vice-Chair is Dakota County Commissioner Mike Slavik.

The Board of Directors has many functions and duties including:
- Provide policy leadership and approve the general policies of Dakota 911 relating to budget, finance, and legal matters;
- Approve annual operating and capital budgets of Dakota 911;
- Hire, discipline, terminate, and set the compensation for the Executive Director; and much more.
